Frequently Asked Questions - Last Update: Jan. '07
Q: What is Premier League?
A: In a nutshell: the highest skill level of 2d spaceship fighting on the internet--and it's free! Premier League is
the current evolution of the original Subspace League started in 1996 and is based on Standard Subspace Settings (as opposed to
one-shot, ctf, and superships zones). Premier takes place every weekend in SSCX Chaos/League SVS 4v4 subarenas and involves 60+
squads in 3 league divisions. The basic competition format is a free-for-all melee between two squads with four pilots in combat.
This league is considered to have the highest level of competition in all of Subspace.
Q: What is AML? What does it stand for?
A: AML stands for Amateur League and is the starting place for squads who are newer to league. AML allows these squads to develop as a
team and gain experience in the field of league play.
Q: What is IML? What does it stand for?
A: IML stands for Intermediate League. Intermediate league is where teams can put the finishing touches on their game play to become
good enough for Pro league. The competition inside this league is higher then what is seen in AML. At this point, the teams in this
league are expected to be very familiar with how the game works, and the dynamics of Premier League.
Q: What is Pro League?
A: Pro League is the crown of Premier. The most skilled subspace players in the game can be seen battling in this league (and they
have the 2-6k+ hours of ?usage to prove it). Winning the Pro Bowl is considered by many to be the highest level of achievement possible
in all of Subspace /Continuum and doing so ensures a place in the history books. There is no better place to show off your Standard
Settings skills.
Q: What is the maximum number of squads each league will hold at the same time?
A: AML: 32 teams
IML: 16 teams
Pro: 7 teams
Total: 32 teams
These numbers are based on the tier system in the pyramid format. The numbers listed above are the number of teams entering playoffs.
Q: Can you play on more then one team? Or can you play in all the leagues?
A: No. This is considered "double-squadding." You must be on only one team at a time, in only one league. Violators of this rule
are subject to disqualification/banning from the zone for the current and following season. Sharing names with another player is also a
bannable offense.
Q: Will each league follow the same rules?
A: Yes.
Q: Will Premier use a pyramid or season schedule?
A: Currently, we use a pyramid schedule for AML/IML/Pro. All these are subject to change, but
only with a majority of public support.
Q: How will squads be accepted into Premier?
A. A squad must sign up on the waiting
list. As there is an opening for it, the team captain (the person
who signed up the team) will be contacted. At this point, the team
must fill in a roster, and play games. If any squads cannot consistently
show 4 players per game, then they will be dropped from Premier
League.
Q: How can I become a ref?
A: We're always looking for good volunteers, please fill out an
application here.
Q: How can I become part of the staff?
A: Staff members are usually taken from the Ref core. As these people
have showed interest in helping out. However, it is not just limited
to the Ref core. When a staff position is open, and we want applications,
we will inform the public. People are chosen on their past history,
their experience, and their personality. Being on staff carries
responsibility, and as such, we try to pick only people who can
handle such.
Q: Will Premier have playoffs at the end of each season?
A: Yes. AML/IML/Pro will all hold playoffs at the end of the season.
Q: I have a brother, can they also play?
A: Yes they can. However, before your brother is put on a roster,
the staff MUST BE NOTIFIED!!!!!! Failure to do so, may lead to a
very long ban for you and your brother. This may seem severe, but
remember, we can't know everyone. So, from our side, it appears
that you are trying to break a very serious rule (double squadding).
This also applies to anyone who has a valid reason to share a computer
with any other SS/Premier League player. (You may NOT go over to
a friends house to play your league games, as this doesn't extend
to such a situation). General valid reasons:
- Family connection
- Roommate
- Common Labs (this can be tricky, make sure you inform staff, and if anything unusual is sighted, this can be revoked)
Q: I have a complaint about a staff member or ref, how do I go about sending it in?
A: This is always an unfortunate situation. Since the staff core and Ref core, is a large group, sometimes someone could get out
of hand, for which we apologize. Your first step is to send a ?help message in this format '?help {offending ref's name) is
(what they are doing / have done). Please allow 5 minutes for a response (staff will need to discuss this and follow up with the
offendor before making any decisions). If you do not receive a response (which may happen if no other staff members are available)
you will need to manually hand in such a complaint by ?logbuffering the event and filling out the form here.
To make your case as strong as possible, please add any other applicable logs,
screenshots, and witness names. Please also include a very detailed
description of the event (summarized outside of the log). Once the complaint is received, an investigation
is undertaken. The result of this investigation may or may not be
published but you may personally be notified of the action taken. Staff punishment is often kept "in house" out
of respect to those who take their own time out to help run Premier
League. Remember, no one on the staff or ref core is paid to do
any of this work. It is all done for the public, out of care/respect
for the community! False reporters of mod abuse will be punished.
Q: What is there to do inside Premier League outside of the weekend games?
A: Most people spend their time inside practices, or viewing them.
This is where you can work on improving your skill in the 4vs4 games,
and also get a chance to build yourself a name (so you can get on
squads, or get offers to join squads). If you are new to the game,
please just view some practices first, and figure out how they work.
They follow rules that are close to those in the rulebook, but just
much more informal. These are often self regulated by the players,
with refs/staff moderating any complaints that arise.
Q: How can I Help?
A: There are dozens of ways you can help the community. To begin, get involved! Join discussions on the message
boards and help newbies whenever you can. Write articles, guides, humor, predictions, and rankings for your favorite
leagues and post them to the various fansites or message boards. Stick with one name for a long time so the community
gets to know and trust you. Apply to become a referee and ref as many matches as you can.
Your hard work and winning personality will get noticed!
